U.K. Apr-Aug 1923:
- Tensions rise and the crisis builds throughout the summer. In July there are large riots in working class areas and in cities across the country. The government is forced to import massive amounts of materials and food from the Empire to stay afloat, knocking out the support carefully built up in British Raj.
- Also throughout this time, Communist leaders, the foremost amongst them Palme Dutte, meet secretly with military generals. A wide-reaching plan is organised, with supporters in the government and the secret service. The objective: To overthrow the government and monarchy, and install a Communist regime.
- The plan relies on all major urban centres being secured within the first 48 hours of the coup, thus driving the democratic forces to collapse. A lot is gambled on the support of several generals with a lot of influence, who have expressed their doubts over the whole plot.
- Perhaps critically, however, the plot neglects to ensure support within the ranks of the Royal Navy, whose leader Winston Churchill is a staunch supporter of democracy.
- Early to mid August sees the necessary preparations begun. Arm shipments are covertly moved about the country, with the ISA far too focused on Europe to notice. By the 21st, all is prepared. The country goes to sleep mostly oblivious to the anarchy that will soon unfold.
- On August 22nd, during a session of Parliament armed men enter the chamber, having either killed or been in collaboration with the guards. The members of the BCP rise whilst everyone else is ordered to kneel. Harry Pollitt, a senior party cadre, then declares “the birth of a new age for Britain. No longer does the working class suffer under the totalitarianism of the bourgeoisie. The revolution has swept Britain!”
- In the following hours there are uprisings across Britain and her colonies. Many areas declare for or against the new state. Many more declare independence. And so begins the
