Egypt
- The bloody regime of Hosni Mubarak, long despised and unpopular, comes to a sudden and confused end. Widescale protests coincide with the striking of police in Cairo, Alexandria and Port Said. Mubarak condemns the protestors as treasonous, but realises quickly that he has lost the support of the military. He then resigns after several days of riots and flees Cairo. In his place the Egyptian military installs Mohamed Hussein Tantawi as President, with promises of new elections later in the year.
- The new regime makes clear its policy with Israel, and decries the attempts by its predeccesor to amend relations with the state. There is a military build-up on the border, though this is more of a show of force than anything else.
- The Institute of Military Science (MAA in Arabic) is created, to try and close the technology gap with Israel. A program to develop better military rockets and missiles begins. Also to develop our launch space launch capabilities, because if Israel can do it I bet Egypt can.
- We strengthen our relations within the Arab block, save Sudan who we don't really like. We need to consolidate our influence over the Arab League, possibly reform the Egypt-Syria union to protect against Turkey.
