History
The Shah
For 2500 years, The Persian empire, now known as Iran, had been ruled by Kings known as Shahs. As the 20th century rolled by, the Iranians began to elect a prime minister, especially Mohammad Mosaddegh, a secular democrat, who nationalized Britain and America's oil exports, returning it to Iran. In 1953 however, Britain and America staged a coup, overthrowing the Prime minister, and installing Reza Pahlavi as shah.
The Shah had used his power irresponsibly, and cause huge ammounts of poverty and fammine in the country. Those seeking to overthrow him had to go through his ruthless eternal police, the SAVAK. The tide soon began to turn when he started a campaign to westernize Iran, enraging a mostly shi'ite population, paving the way towards a revolution. They replaced the monarchy with a theocratic & representative government together. The Supreme Leader controls state television, nuclear programs, the councils, but the people elect the President which controls the Budget, the Parliament, & The Assembly Of Experts which chooses the supreme leader but the Supreme Leader gets the final vote on who's president & who's in the Assembly Of Experts so currently the Theocratic parts are more stronger than its Representative parts.
