Istanbulball (Turkish: İstanbul), formerly known as Byzantine Constantinople-icon.png Constantinopleball in Byzantiniumball-icon.png Byzantiumball, is the most populated cityball of Turkey-icon.png Turkeyball. He was first adopted by Greek settlers from Megaraball. Today, Greece-icon.png Greeceball wants him back.

Istanbulball and Constantinopleball are the same cityball, but in different time periods of its life.

History

The first known name of the cityball is Byzantium (Greece-icon.png Greek: Βυζάντιο - Byzántion, Pronounced "Vizadio" in modern Greece-icon.png Greek), around 660 BC. It took on the name of Constantinople (Greece-icon.png Greek: Κωνσταντινουπόλεως - Konstantinoupοleos, or Κωνσταντινούπολη - Konstantinoúpoli; SPQR-icon.png Latin: Constantinopolis; Ottoman-icon.png Ottoman Turkish: قسطنطینية - Kostantiniyye‎) after its re-foundation under Byzantineball emperor Constantine I, who transferred the imperial capital from it's historic base, Rome-icon.png Romeball, to Byzantiniumball-icon.png Byzantium in 330 AD and designated his new capital New Rome (Latin: Nova Roma), however, most Byzantineballs SPQRballs prefered the name "Constantinopleball" which means "Constantine's City".

The modern Turkey-icon.png Turkish name for the city, İstanbul, was used alongside Kostantiniyye, the more formal adaptation of the original name of Constantinople, during the period of Ottoman-icon.png Ottoman rule. Despite the name change, western languages mostly continued to refer to the city as Constantinople until the early 20th century. After the creation of the Turkey-icon.png Republic of Turkey in 1923, the Turkey-icon.png Turkish government began to formally object to the use of Constantinople in other languages and ask that others use the name which they preferred, Istanbul. The official renaming took place on March 28, 1930. Constantinople became Istanbul and was no longer the capital of Turkey-icon.png the kebab ball.

Recently, in 2016, it has been attacked a few times by the evil ISIS-icon.png ISISball, which is a sad day for the city. Now, Greece-icon.png Greeceball still calls it Constantinople. In fact, a lot of people do.
