Kurilball

Kurilball is a chain of volcanic islands in Russia-icon.png Russiaball between Kamchatka-icon.png Kamchatkaball and Hokkaido-icon.png Hokkaidoball. It is administrated as part of Sakhalin-icon.png Sakhalinball. Japan-icon.png Japanball claims the southernmost islands: Iturup, Kunashir, Shikotan, and Habomai as part of Hokkaido-icon.png Hokkaido.

History

The first to settle Kurilball were the Ainu-icon.png Ainuball. In 1590 AD, Kurilball was conquered by the Matsumae Clan of Tokugawa-icon.png Tokugawaball. In 1855, Russian-Empire-icon.png Russian Empireball and Japanese-Empire-icon.png Empire of Japanball divided Kurilball between the islands of Iturup and Urup. In 1875, Russian-Empire-icon.png Russiaball ceded all of Kurilball to Japanese-Empire-icon.png Japanball in exchange for all of Sakhalin Oblast-icon.png Sakhalin Oblastball. Japanese-Empire-icon.png Japanball made Kurilball into Chishima-icon.png Chishimaball. In 1945, Soviet-icon.png Soviet Unionball invaded Chishima-icon.png Chishimaball and expelled the Japanese population living there. Japan-icon.png Japanball still claims the southernmost islands they got in 1855 to this day.
