This time I'm going to repost a news article.
Kanagattandırılmagandıktarıńızdan - Kazak Grammar developed a version of the Latin alphabet
Along with a wave of news about the transition of the Kazakh language to the Latin alphabet, the popularity of the Kazak Grammar community in the social networks Facebook and "VKontakte" is growing. The developers of the team have been working on their concept of the Kazakh alphabet for five years already. About why the specific Kazakh sounds can not be completely translated into 26 Latin letters and for which Kazakhstan needs a new alphabet in general, one of the linguists of the Kazak Grammar team Nursultan Bagidolla told the Today.kz editorial.
"We wanted to adapt the alphabet as much as possible to the standard layout, but, unfortunately, we can not do it at all." We decided that it would be better to have a separate layout with additional symbols," he says.
According to the Kazak Grammar concept, the new alphabet should have 28 letters denoting 9 vowels and 19 consonants.
At the same time, developers abandoned the letters "F" and "H" in the Kazakh language.
"There are no "X" and "H" sounds in the traditional Kazakh phonetics of sounds, they change to "Q" : xat - qat, xabar - qabar, or "K": ximiya - kimiye, or even drop out: changes to "P" or even "B": Fazil - Pazil - Bazil," says the developer.
He notes that these changes will not affect borrowing from Russian or other languages.
"Here you can make two options: to take either official Russian transcription in Latin, translitatively, or to write in Kazakh in Latin, but in the current version with apostrophes it turns out quite porridge," notes Nursultan.
In the proposed version of Kazak Grammar, the symbols for the sounds of the Kazakh language look like this:
Ää - ә, İi - і, Üü - ү, Öö - ө, Ńń - ң. The Russian "U" developers still propose to designate as "W", from which the republican coordination and methodological center for the development of languages refused to create the new alphabet.
Sounds "Ğ" and "G" suggest to designate one symbol - "G", and "Q" and "K" as "K".
"The Kazakh language is one of those rare languages that have preserved the synharmonicity." Is it possible to find combinations of "QÄ", "QÖ", "QE", "QÜ", "Qİ" in the Kazakh dictionary? Or also in the originally Kazakh words "KA" , "KO", "KU", "KI"? That is, in the Kazakh language, the sound "Q" can be combined with vowels only in the back row (juwan). A "K" - front row (jіńicke). Use the letter "K" and for "K", and for "Q", as well as "G" for both "G" and "Ğ", will solve the problem with the root. First, do not be afraid of this risk: specific sounds will not go away. and before us in Turkmen, Tatar, Nogai, Kyrgyz, and Turkish dialects, people have long read "K" and both "K" and "Q", following the synharmonicity, the same concerns "G" with "Ğ". These people do not see the problem in the universal nature of the letter "K" for more than 80 years, and from literary Turkish, where there is no sound "Q", the sound disappeared long before the Latin: in a few more centuries," noted the linguists.
Kazak Grammar changed their version of the alphabet several times already. The latest version developed applications for word conversion and a variant of the keyboard.
"We've changed the alphabet several times, the last one is the most acceptable one. We already have a keyboard for Android, Mac and Windows. For iOS, we also have a converter," said linguists.
The main goal of the transition to the Latin alphabet, according to them, is the restoration of the original Kazakh language.
"When developing, we took into account all the options: even the old version of the Kazakh Latin alphabet, as well as the Kazakh Latin alphabet in China, was used in the 60s and 80s of the 20th century, and the Turkmen mutant took into account. The meaning of the transition to the Latin alphabet - to transform the Kazakh language, to restore the system of adaptation of borrowed words. "This process stopped because of the Cyrillic alphabet," Nursultan Bagidolla noted.
Transition of the Kazakh language into Latin alphabet
Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev stated in his article "A Look into the Future: Modernization of Public Consciousness", published in April 2017, about the need to transfer the Kazakh language to the Latin alphabet. On 11 September, the first draft of the Kazakh alphabet on the Latin chart was presented in Astana. On October 9, the head of state was shown the second version of the alphabet.
On October 27, Nursultan Nazarbayev approved the draft of the new Kazakh alphabet on the basis of Latin script and decided to begin a phased process of transition to it until 2025.
In social networks, Kazakh people began to publish posts with the writing of their names according to the rules of the new alphabet. So, Facebook user Dmitry Shishkin was surprised by a combination of new letters in his name.
The editorial staff of Today.kz also conducted a video survey about the transition of the Kazakh language into Latin alphabet among Almaty residents.
